What better place to watch a terrifying film about killer birds than right on the waterfront, surrounded by seagulls who want to steal your pasties?! The Hitchcock classic begins as an innocuous romantic triangle involving Melanie, Mitch and Annie and culminates at the home of Mitch's mother at Bodega Bay, where the characters' sense of security is slowly eroded by the curious behaviour of the birds in the area. At first, it's no more than a sea gull swooping down and pecking at Melanie's head…but once the onslaught begins, there's virtually no letup.

Q. Will we be watching the film from the pool?
A. You won’t be swimming while watching the film – sorry! The film will be shown on the concrete sun terrace next to the pool (where they sometimes put deckchairs). The pool will not be open for swimming on the evenings of the events.

Q. When/ where can I collect my tickets?
A. If you selected “Leave my tickets at the box office” for the delivery option: until Wed 31 July, you can collect your tickets from our main Box Office inside Plymouth College of Art, Tavistock Place, within our opening hours (Tuesday-Friday: 5-8.30pm, Saturday: 1-8pm). Past this date, you will have to collect your tickets on the night at Tinside Lido. We will have a mini box office open onsite from 8pm. Please bring the booking confirmation email or an ID to collect your tickets.
If you selected the Print at Home delivery option, please print your tickets on A4 paper and present them at the Box Office on site on arrival. Alternatively you may show your PDF tickets on your phone. You should receive your booking confirmation email first, followed by a second email with your PDF tickets attached. The PDF tickets are usually generated and sent straight away after the booking is confirmed. If you haven’t received your tickets within a day of making your booking, please call us on 01752 206 114 or email info@plymouthartscentre.org.

Q. Can I buy tickets on the night?
A. Advance booking is strongly recommended as these events sell out. Door sales on the night (subject to availability – check our website for the latest update) are cash only. We hold waiting lists for sold out events in case of cancellations. To be added to a waiting list, contact our Box Office on 01752 206 114, or email info@plymouthartscentre.org, and include your name, phone number, and the number and type of tickets (VIP or standard) you are after.

Q. Do I need to bring a chair/ blankets?
A. We will provide chairs for everyone at the Tinside Lido screenings, and chairs and blankets for VIPs. It can get chilly in the evenings so please make sure you dress warmly – think woolly hats, jumpers, coats and blankets!

Q. What does the VIP ticket include?
A. The VIP package includes a chair and blanket in the VIP area, a packet of Portlebay popcorn and a drink (to choose from a glass of Prosecco, a Summerskills Ale or a Luscombe’s soft drink).

Q. Is seating allocated?
A. No. Each ticket has an individual number, but seating is not allocated. You can choose where to sit on the night, in the area corresponding to the tickets you booked (VIP or standard).

Q. Can I bring alcohol?
A. No. Alcoholic drinks will not be allowed into the event. We will be running a bar for alcoholic drinks. The bar is cash-only. Please note there is no ATM machine on site. Tinside Lido kiosk will also be open and sells a range of soft drinks, hot drinks and snacks.

Q. Can I bring food?
A. Yes – there are no restrictions on bringing food so feel free to bring a picnic.

Q. What time does the film start?
A. The film will start at around 9.15pm when light levels are low enough to project onto the screen.

Q. What time should I arrive?
A. You can arrive any time you like after 8pm. We recommend arriving at least 20 minutes before the film starts, as queues might form at the Box Office and Bar. Bring a picnic, or sit and enjoy a drink and watch the sun go down.

Q. Can I get a refund if the weather is bad?
A. The screenings go ahead in all but the most severe weather conditions. No refunds will be given.

Q. Is there disabled access?
A. There is lift access from street level to the lido. There are then a few steps up to the sun terrace where the film will be shown, with disabled access via a ramp.

Q. Are children allowed to come?
A. Children are welcome at the events, so long as they meet the age rating of the film. Babies under 12 months go in for free, no ticket needed.

Q. Are dogs allowed to come?
A. Dogs are not permitted at Tinside Lido.
