With the cinema closed, Birds Eye View are doing all they can to keep the flame of cinemas alive through their online events and talks around new independent film releases.
Reclaim The Frame is a mission to bring ever-greater audiences to films by women to widen and enrich cinema’s perspective of the world, run by charity Birds’ Eye View, and backed by the British Film Institute’s Audience Fund.

Online event – using recorded content (approx 20-25 mins) This is a special Reclaim The Frame recorded introduction + Q&A hosted by Birds’ Eye View director-at-large by Mia Bays with director Zeina Durra, lead actor Andrea Riseborough and Director of Photography Zelmira Gainza released on tbc via Birds’ Eye View’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
When British aid worker Hana (Andrea Riseborough) returns to the ancient city of Luxor, she comes across Sultan (Karim Saleh), a talented archeologist and former lover. As she wanders, haunted by the familiar place, she struggles to reconcile the choices of the past with the uncertainty of the present.

Tune in on Wednesday 4 November at 6.00pm for a special panel SHIRLEY discussion with film critic Hannah Woodhead, Hayley Louise Charlesworth (PhD researcher in American Gothic and representations of bisexuality onscreen at Manchester Metropolitan University), Dr Joan Passey from the University of Bristol who specialises in Gothic literature and the works of Shirley Jackson and Tara Judah, writer & Watershed cinema producer. Love Child offers a heart-breaking portrait of Leila and Sahand, an Iranian couple who are forced to flee for their lives from Tehran where their secret affair and illegitimate child are both considered crimes, punishable by death.
CRIP CAMP
This year is the 25th anniversary of the Disability Discrimination Act coming into law in Britain and the 18 November sees the launch of United Kingdom Disability History Month – this year’s theme is Access: How far have we come? How far have we to go?
To mark the anniversary Reclaim The Frame will be joined by CRIP CAMP filmmakers Nicole Newnham and James Lebrecht for a special online A&Q on Tuesday 17 November, 6.00pm (GMT), you can catch the film on YouTube for free and Netflix now. RAISE HELL: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF MOLLY IVINS

The story of media firebrand Molly Ivins, six feet of Texas trouble who took on the Good Old Boy corruption wherever she found it. Her razor sharp wit left both sides of the aisle laughing, and craving ink in her columns. She knew the Bill of Rights was in peril, and said “Polarizing people is a good way to win an election and a good way to wreck a country.” Molly’s words have proved prescient.
