In their mission to bring ever-greater audiences to films by women, Reclaim The Frame have moved their activities online for now. There are two fantastic events coming up this week.

Oscar-winning producer and Birds’ Eye View Director-at-large Mia Bays will be in conversation with Philippa Lowthorpe, director of MISBEHAVIOUR on Facebook Live.
MISBEHAVIOUR tells the sensational true story of the disruption of the 1970 Miss World contest by the nascent Women’s Liberation Movement, an event which made headlines around the world. In the middle of one of the most popular TV shows in the world, watched by 100 million viewers, the Libbers spectacularly disrupted the broadcast. Not only that, when order was restored, the first woman of colour – Jennifer Hosten of Grenada – won the Miss World crown.

On Sunday 26 April, 6.00pm (GMT) we’ll be in conversation on Facebook with filmmaker and academic Laura Mulvey, who is perhaps most famous for coining the phrase ‘the male gaze’.
Her huge contribution to film theory which showed us that WHO directed or wrote a film defined how people of all genders were and were not represented, and where women in the media, viewed from the eyes of a heterosexual man, were largely represented as passive objects of male desire. It is out of this we use the term ‘the female gaze’ which centres everything we show.
