We're currently closed in preparation for the move to our new venue. Our new cinema will open to the public on Friday 11 January.

There is level access to Plymouth Arts Centre’s ground floor including the reception, front gallery, cinema, cafe bar and accessible WC. We regret that the first floor is only accessible by stairs: which includes an exhibition display. The cinema features an infrared hearing loop system. There are two spaces for wheelchair users in the cinema, please inform our Box Office if you would like to use them, phone: 01752 206114. Our brochure and printed material are available in large print from the Box Office.

Driving Directions

From the Sainsbury’s ‘sails’ roundabout. Keep in the middle lane taking the left towards city centre. Stay in the middle lane until the road verges off towards Barbican, go under the bridge, keeping in the left hand lane towards the city centre. At the large roundabout take the first exit onto Exeter street, keeping in the left hand lane along Exeter Street and coming off left just before road becomes a bus lane, towards Bretonside. When you come to the small roundabout at Bretonside go straight over towards the old Bus Station. Pass the Bus Station on your right, Looe street is now on your left, marked as a one way street. It is a small cobbled street sharing the same entrance as How Street. Plymouth Arts Centre is on the right hand side as you turn left into Looe Street. Metered parking can be found down the left hand side of Looe Street.

Most buses that operate in Plymouth stop on Royal Parade. Catch any bus to Royal Parade and follow walking directions from there.

Walking Directions

From Royal Parade
Walk to St Andrew’s Cross Roundabout at the top of Royal Parade. At the roundabout, take the third exit onto Kinterbury Street. At the junction with Buckwell Street, cross over Buckwell Street at the zebra crossing and go under the gothic stone archway following the path straight ahead onto Looe Street. You will see Plymouth Arts Centre at the top of Looe Street, on the right hand side.

From The Barbican
Walk to the top of Southside Street, keeping Plymouth Gin Distillery on your left. Turn right onto Vauxhall street. Cross Vauxhall Street, continue for 60 metres and then turn left onto Batter Street. Walk up Batter Street for 100 metres and when you reach the top, turn left onto Looe Street. Plymouth Arts Centre is at the top of Looe Street, on your left.

Please note that from April 1st 2017, an overnight charge of £2 applies for pay and display parking on Looe Street between 6pm and 8am. This is part of Plymouth City Council’s citywide overhaul of parking charges. We understand that this makes it difficult to park on Looe Street for an early film (it affects staff and volunteers working at the early evening screening too).

The machines will take overpayment, for example, if you arrive for an early film at 5.30pm, you can purchase a 30 minute ticket to cover the period before the evening charge of £2.00. Therefore if you put in a total of £2.75 this would produce a ticket that is valid until 8am the following day.

We have considered moving our early evening screening to after 6pm, but this would push the later film back, making public transport difficult for many people.

We are in discussions with Plymouth City Council about whether there is anything they can do to help with this matter. If the new charges are affecting your visits to Plymouth Arts Centre we encourage you to email the council at to make them aware of this – as a local independent business and a charity your support is very important to us.

Alternatives to parking on Looe Street
Bretonside B and C, and Exchange Street
There is a public car park at Staples.

We would be pleased to receive your responses to our exhibitions – thank you for your help.
