At Plymouth Arts Centre, we greatly appreciate our volunteers and think they bring a wealth of enthusiasm to our team.

If you would like to join our team you will learn new skills, meet new people, be involved in the arts, and give something back to the community. Many of our volunteers have progressed to full employment at Plymouth Arts Centre and other arts institutions in Plymouth and beyond. We give our volunteers a cinema pass as a thank you.

Please see below to find out how you can get involved.

The first point of contact for our visitors, this is an important role where you will meet new people and be at the heart of the activity at Plymouth Arts Centre. If you have good people skills and are happy to learn, this role would be perfect for you.

Cinema Ushering
Ushers are responsible for assisting our customers into the films, being present through the film to assist when necessary and being aware of emergency procedures. This is an ideal role for those interested in film and good with people. One of our cinema ushers has been with us for 40 years!

Event Steward
Stewards are responsible for welcoming and assisting visitors to our offsite films (mostly Open Air Cinema), being present through the film to assist when necessary and being aware of emergency evacuation procedures. Other tasks include assisting with car parking, litter picking, and ticket exchange. This is an ideal role for those interested in film/events and good with people.

Writing/ Photography/ Video for Plymouth Arts Centre Blog
If you are a writer, photographer or film maker who’s passionate about Art or Cinema and interested in contributing to our blog, please contact our Marketing Manager, Charlotte McGuinness charlotte@plymouthartscentre.org with an example of your work.

Children’s workshops
We hold regular events for children, and you would assist the workshop leader with the practicalities of these events. There is a rewarding role that requires someone with a great deal of enthusiasm.

Brochure Distribution
Each volunteer will cover a specific geographical area that will be agreed with them by the marketing team. Even if you can just spare a few minutes each month to take a pile of brochures to your local shop, pub or post office, you will help to spread the word of Plymouth Arts Centre and be an ambassador for us. Please get in touch with our Marketing Manager, Charlotte McGuinness charlotte@plymouthartscentre.org

Exhibition installation
If you are a practical person, with skills that could assist us during our busiest times, we would be happy to hear from you. Working under the guidance of our technicians and artists, you will assist in the creation of our exhibitions.
