Recruitment of Board Members

Andrew Brewerton
Andrew is Principal of Plymouth College of Art and Honorary Professor of Fine Art at Shanghai University. A former Principal of Dartington College of Arts, he has held a number of academic and public appointments; as Chair of the South West Regional Council and national council member of Arts Council England; and as Vice-Chair of the Prime Minister’s Advisory Group on Higher Education (PMI2), amongst others.

He is a poet, and author of fifty journal and catalogue essays, chiefly on contemporary glass art. A book-length monograph on his contribution to post-1949 Art & Design education in China was published in Shanghai in March 2011. His international work as an educator has involved the catalytic development of academic programs in China, South Africa and the UK; as well as international public art projects and arts consultancy. His poetry publications include Via (Wild Honey Press, 2010) and he is cited in ‘Poetry after 1970’ in The Cambridge History of Twentieth-Century English Literature (Cambridge University Press, 2004).

Tanya Griffiths
Tanya is a registered Architect with over 12 years of practice experience. She established the Architecture Centre Devon and Cornwall, an independent community interest company in June 2006.
Educated at Cambridge University and University College London, Tanya was an associate of Foster and Partners where she worked for 10 years. After leaving Fosters in 2003 she joined Sonnemann Toon Architects, a small design practice in central London as a partner. She has worked on a very wide range of projects and on both public and private commissions in Europe and in the UK.
Tanya’s role as director of the Architecture Centre Devon and Cornwall is to raise public awareness of design issues, to promote built environment education and to support local authorities in achieving high design aspiration and outcomes,- through training programmes, community consultation, design review, advocacy events and project work.

Judith Noble
Judith Noble is Head of Academic Research and an Associate professor at Plymouth College of Art. She began her career as an artist-filmmaker, exhibiting works widely, before working in arts funding and the film industry. She was Film and Television Officer at the South West Arts Board, where she oversaw funding and support for film production and art house cinemas (including Plymouth Arts Centre) in the South West, before becoming Chief Executive of the South West Media Development Agency and then Head of Production at Sgrin Cymru Wales where she managed Welsh National Lottery funding for feature film production, script development and short film production and executive -produced films by directors including Peter Greenaway and Amma Asante. Judith is joint-coordinator of the Black Mirror Research Network and publishes widely on artists and independent film.

Angela Piccini
Angela Piccini is a Reader in Screen Media at Bristol University and is one half of Bureau of the Contemporary and Historic (ButCH), based in the former Plymouth Arts Centre. As an artist and educator, she explores lively materialities through film and video with a particular focus on heritage-based creative (non)fictions. Her work includes Guttersnipe – A Micro Road Movie (2004), Beachley-Aust (2009), Association of Unknown Shores (2018-date, with Kayle Brandon and others). Her recent publications include ‘A Morecambe Mystery’ (2020, in Carruthers & Nour, eds. Sandscapes: Writing the British Seaside), Imagining Regulation Differently: Co-creating Regulation for Engagement (2020, co-edited with Morag McDermont, Tim Cole, and Janet Newman), and The Oxford Handbook of the Archaeology of the Contemporary World (2013, co-edited with Paul Graves-Brown and Rodney Harrison). She is a member of the Royal Anthropological Institute’s Film Committee, Camp, Cube Cinema and Bristol Expanded and Experimental Film (BEEF). She originally hails from Vancouver, Canada.

Paul Woods
Paul has lived in Plymouth for many years working as a solicitor and from 2002 -2013 was Senior Partner of Wolferstans. Since retirement he has remained a consultant to the firm and additionally works part time as a Tribunal Judge. He is a past President of Plymouth Law Society. During his time in Plymouth he has had the opportunity to get involved in many aspects of the City’s life on a voluntary basis. In relation to business and the economy at times he has been Chair of Plymouth Growth Board and Chair of Plymouth Chamber of Commerce. In sports he was first Chairman and later President of Plymouth Albion RFC for about 15 years and held various committee offices in clubs involved with tennis, squash and golf. In the arts and education, he was a Governor of Plymouth College of Art for a time and for the last 9 years has been a trustee and Board member of Theatre Royal Plymouth Limited. He has been on several fundraising project committees for charities in Devon and Cornwall.
